Over the course of two summers, Sarah G Ascough visited agricultural shows across the North of England, photographing the people and animals that frequent them. The result is ‘Showfield’ - a book of black and white documentary images which are engaging, nostalgic, and full of character and humour.
"I looked through [the book] with both pleasure and envy! A great addition to the Foundation library."
"I returned from holiday to find your book waiting for me. It’s absolutely delightful! I spent 5 years working on a weekly local paper and photographed lots of agricultural shows, so your book brought back very happy memories. I like the way you’ve shot the images quite wide so we pick up lots of atmosphere, detail and great faces in the scenes. Love that shot from Bakewell of the man in cap and duck. Also the lady and hairy dog from Longridge. Congratulations."
"Ascough’s black & white images not only make you feel as if you are there, but also help you understand the skill it takes to get so close but not lose the moment...It’s a classic combination of finely tuned photographic art and a humorous eye. Five stars."
